VAMPIRES // Supports TBA
19/08/11

The Vampires are quickly becoming an icon on the Australian jazz scene with their unique blend of soulful jazz, old-school reggae and South American music.

Featuring compositions by saxophonist Jeremy Rose (2009 Bell Award Winner for Young Australian Jazz Artist of the Year) and trumpeter Nick Garbett, (2010 National Jazz Awards finalist) their powerful melodic invention and use of surprising grooves sets them apart. Joining them are the powerful and dynamic rhythm section of double bassist Alex Boneham and drummer Alex Masso.

With one eye to the future of Australian music and one nod to the past with echoes of Bernie McGann and The Catholics, along with inspiration from Bob Marley and Ornette Coleman, The Vampires music stands the test of repeated listening. Their two releases - "South Coasting" and "Chellowdene" have been hailed as a fresh sound, and has led them to extensive touring and appearances at major festivals around Australia including the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz, The Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Peats Ridge Festival and Jazzgroove Futures Festival.

Having just returned from trumpeter Dave Douglas' International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music in Banff, Canada in May/June, the band will be at a creative peak.
